Match Report

Rainhill United  5  Widnes  0

Rainhill flew out the blocks and scored with their first attack due to some fine work by Faye Stanhope who slotted after initially having her shot blocked. For the whole of this first half Rainhill was well on top and went close numerous times to doubling their lead.

Second half Rainhill then got the goals they deserved, firstly it was Olivia Wood who got on the score sheet after some great skill and a shot from distance which to her surprise went in the net. Next up it was Lucy Finch’s turn to score with a well-deserved goal again from distance. Rainhill’s other two goals came from the hard work of Mia Hoey and Chloe Powell.

After a comfortable win is was especially pleasing to see no goals or even chances conceded and that was down to excellent work in the defence by Lucie Sams, Liv Conlan and Rachel Dennett. All this was backed up by the goalkeeper Katie Roberts whose kicking and reading of the game was immaculate.

Girls of the Match was Lucy Finch who was run very close by Olivia Wood who was also outstanding.
